BURGER CHEF

I remember my Burger Chef days fondly. I put my name in for a job at St. Mary's hospital but I guess I wasn't hotsy or totsy enough for them. So I applied at Burger Chef and was hired immediately. I started there in March of 1972, I think my starting pay was $1.25. It was a lot of fun working there, a lot of friends and classmates came in every night. It got to be a regular hang out which made me cool. After a year or so I became night manager. A position that totally went to my head. Or was that my bitchin hat. I worked there for 3 and a half years, I thought my future was in the fast food industry, I am glad it wasn't but I could see myself as a McSenior in the future. Jay and I talk about all the different people we worked with over the years there, we may try to name as many as possible later. My career there ended in August of 1975. I had taking the Post Office test over a year before. I had just got back from my first trip to Colorado with my cousin Bill Trine and found a letter in the mail from the PO, they needed me. I almost didn't go to work there because by then I was making almost $4 an hour and loved my job. What I wouldn't give for a Super Chef right now.

Jay, me and Dan Grieving, oh yes and a big bag of frozen fries.
A rare behind the scene look, even has pictures if you don't know how to make a Super Chef.
Clean up after close, Jay wanted us to smear him with ketchup.

A Burger Chef picnic. Standing around wishing someone would have brought a ball.

Pretending someone brought a soccer ball. Dan G, Jay, Ghris Glassford(dead) Rick Bruening and Wes Bowen.
Sho-Fly-Pie eating cake.

Bob Kuhlman(dead) Kathy's Grandma, Dan and future Quincy Police officer Darla Hufford.
My cake at my going away party.
Jammin' at my party, Jay and Dunk.
Jay is drunk of course and Chris G. Yes the party was at John and Paulette's. (they were gone) hehe
That says it all.

I'm with Jay, I wish we could have a Burger Chef reunion.

Thanks Burger Chef and Jeff

THAT WAS A GREAT POST....SO MUCH BETTER THAN JUST A TITLE.

the first side shot of jay, he looks just like his dad. Loved the butt picture...yours is the best. I remember coming into BurgerChef with my Uncle Bill for hot ham and cheese...THOSE were the best. Wouldn't it be funny if you'd waited on us...wish I could remember! Glad you had such a good time with your first real job. You've worked so hard all your life, and are so loyal and constant....I love that about you!

OH< and you were too GOOD for St Mary's, and the Post Office DID need you and still does!!!

Jimmy must have learned from the best...the Midnight Jimmy Burgers still sell out everytime!

I loved getting all those cards for free sandwiches...as did Elaine! No thanks for "hosting" your going away party???? So you wait until we leave so you dont have to listen to John's jokes????
Post office's gain was Burger's Chef loss

a quick note, Chris Glassford is not dead but his brother TJ is, he also worked at B.C.

oh what a faux pas.....The rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated!!! Sorry Chris.

That happened at one of my class reunions. The had a "memorial board" with all our dead classmates on it and one of them showed up. oops

OK I will give you that one Jay, Tim Glassford(dead) and I will raise you Rick Steeples(dead). Start your past employees list Jay. I want to put as many on here as possible.

That is so neat that you have all of those pictures from working there. Looks like you had some great times and great memories there. I only vaguely remember Burger Chef being on the corner there.

I didn't get my name on the marquee when I left. Very sad, some people were left off the list, I made the list, so I'll always have that.
