Our 2011 Vacation

This is our home away from home for our trip to Smoky Mountain National Park. I wish you could tell from this photo how bad the incline is...it was really STEEP, and the parking area had a huge rut I had to try to back over without then continuing on down the hill...my only complaint on this cabin, which was quite roomy for the 4 of us. (We missed you Adam)Cody checking out the dart board and pool table. The doorway leads into the second master suite, complete with jacuzzi tub, fireplace, bathroom/shower, TV, and it's own deck with hot tub~
Fire house golf...you can't read it well but the white board is to keep track of high score of the day and on the red course it says 'my boys, C&E 43" yep, the boys tied for high score and the counter guy wrote just what I said....only I said Cody & Eric...he just couldn't seem to remember all that!

The boys lost in a cloud on top of Clingmans Dome...the highest spot in the park, and also the highest point in Tennessee.
Cody with a yummy foodstuff, chicken stuffed fajita at Dollywood, with Eric begging for a bite..He then got his own, as did Joe.
More yummies at the park...we split a funnel cake and Dolly's Friendship Fountain. There is also a Memory Rose Garden with a rose bush for all of Dolly's friends that have passed away...most notably to us, John Denver. On our first driving trip through the Park, we were on Roaring Fork Nature Trail , a one way road, when we came upon a mama bear and her 3 cubs. Mama was actully standing in the road foraging on the hillside when we drove up. We were SO excited, and stayed safely in our car.
One of the babies that climbed up with his sib to get a better look at his fans!!! TOO CUTE
We went from Black Bears to Black Snakes....to say I was NOT excited would be an exaggeration...YUK. I kid you not, TWO park rangers guarded this guy where ever he went
Cade's Cove. Another one way touring trail. This valley was cleared out by the Cherokee when they burned out the vegetation to create the valley to live/farm/hunt. They named this area the Land of the Blue Smoke There are many well preserved cabins, homesteads and barns in the area. This is one that is photographed most. Their barns are all a little weird if you ask me. I think one of the funniest things I heard on the trip was this dad that was trying to get his son to follow him from one of the cabins up to the barn, and he said "come up here and look at this cabin with me" The son, about 7 or 8 said with full disgust "DAD, that is NOT a cabin, THAT is like their GARAGE" (the whole structure was shorter than me...I think it was a chicken coop)This falls was just along the road running through the park...so glad we stopped b/c I think it is just beautiful. and no hike in 95 degree weather....yay
Our trip was really a good one and it was great to see a part of the country we'd never been to before. I just don't think this park compares in the same way to the Rockies, but it is beautiful in its own way. I did LOVE being with my family for the week and NOTHING can beat that. We did new things, like cabin dwelling, and a new national park and going through and to several states we've not been in before, so that was fun too.

Nice post honey. It was a lot of fun. If it wasn't so darn hot it would have been a whole lot better.
So glad we got to see another national park. There was just to many trees to get a good view at its beauty.
It was so nice to have all that room for just us 4. The cabin idea really worked out great. And Dollywood was just about a half a mile away, straight downhill.

That cabin is amazing! Would love to stay in one like that in CO.

Been to the Smokies twice but has been so long. I only remember bits and pieces.
