ST. NICHOLAS

One of my favorite memories as a kid is celebrating the Feast of St. Nicholas. Tonight before we went to bed we would leave our shoes out. Then in the morning when we wake up St Nicholas had left us candy. It was kind of a signal that we have been good and wasn't going to get coal for Christmas. even though that was what John wanted was coal for the furnace.

Joe, Beata and I talked about this. In Poland they find gifts under their pillows and in Germany they find gifts in their shoes. I have fond memories of this too.

Noah's class is wearing PJ's to school tomorrow and they left stockings out at school for St Nick since they couldn't leave their shoes. He's all excited. It will be a fun day.

Left gifts under her pillow Uh? That sounds like the Polish Tooth Fairy.

My first St Nicholas Day as a married lady, he left me a Microwave on ALL my shoes...I still have/use that microwave almost everyday. This is one of the many special memories I have b/c of my Joey Bear. I didn't know a thing about St Nicholas Day until I met him.

I love that, Cindy, putting a large gift on all your shoes. Joe is sure creative.

I actually remember sneaking down stairs and seeing St. Nicholas once. I was immediately grabbed by my pajamas and carried back upstairs by someone and thrown into bed. I landed in Johns urine and got blamed for wetting the bed.

In Poland that day is more important to kids that the Christmas Eve, because of the mistery of St. Nicolai and putting something under the pillow. Now, these days, I need to remind Rob, that St. Nicolai IS COMING! ;-) He does a good job with it! It's so much fun and I still get as excited as when I was a little girl.
When Mom comes home she will be surprised too. St. Nicolai left something under her pillow too!

I remember getting lots of candy thanks to my corrective shoes. But my favorite memory of candy is at Grandpa and Grandmas and being offered a piece of ribbon candy. The trouble with that was when you took a piece 3 lbs. of assorted candies were stuck to it. Ah the fillings lost to that stuff!

The first St. Nicholas that Jay and I were married he gave me slipper/socks he had bought in the hospital gift shop. I alas had sold my feet to buy him a ivory guitar pick...and he of course sold the guitar to pay for the slippers.
Cindy I remember when you got your microwave.
Kelly it's neat that Noah's excited about wearing PJ's tomorrow. Beata, it sounds like it was a very special day in Poland. I

I thought you said it twice because no one was listening....they've all moved on to John's blog....He must think he is Aunt Mimi or something.
