I know I did a lot of leaf raking when I was young, who didn't? But some how after jumping into the piles for hours at a time it just got old :-X. So we started raking the leaves into trails and played tag. You could NOT cross over the 3 inch wall of leaves you have to go to an opening. Miles and miles of trails every year for a poor kid to explore. Some years we couldn't wait for them to fall, so we would kick balls into the trees to knock the leaves down or in desperation we imported them from across the alley. Tons of leaves for tons of fun. Many times in the evening when it was dark we would have to send a search team in for Jay because he would get disoriented.
I submit to you that those Bozarth leaf trails were the original crop circles. Check http://www.snopes.com/
When my kids were younger we tried to reenact the famous trails with only minimal success. the fun was gone with the invention of the video game.
Raking leaves this year it all came back to me all the fun when I was a kid and that great experience as a father of young kids. Calgon take me back.
So I will try once more to relive a fond memory, with the dog. Is this all that is left for me before I die? Playing in the leaves with the dog.

So far so good.
Come on stay in the damn trails, you're wrecking them.
Is this the front or back?
I guess he is done and ready to go in and play video games.
So ends another season of leaf trails. And a new experience to share with
.............................. the dog.

My boys would love to come play leaf trails with you Joe! The other day they just raked all of ours in a big pile and jumped in. It was kind of nice. I sat in the sun eating my homemade chili and enjoying the nice day. My 3 boys and 3 neighbor boys raked the yard. Life doesn't get much better.
I have to wonder also what your neighbors thought of you when they saw you out making trails in your leaves.
Hey! I loved leaf trails, we would always make them! We had a blast. And then wanted to go watch Dad play UN Squadron.
UN Squadron, the only game I ever beat.
I know it all seems in jest, but Joe really does get nostalgic for his youth when the leaves fall...It is the one story I hear about almost every year....leave trails. Sorry you are reduced to doing them with a dog, but it sure looks like Kirby was having fun.
I also made leaf trails with my kids but alas I have no blog to post on. So here I am glomming onto Joe's blog like an internet version of Aunt Edna. I'd love to have a blog but between Seafight and Poker (not to mention Mr. Peepers, I told you not to mention him) I don't have the time. I'm glad Joe has so much liesure time to entertain us all! THANKS
In the stone age we made leaf houses. Wonder if that's because we were girls--me, Jan, and John....
Ahh leaf trails!! Jay used to rake the leaves into intricate trails. He'd change the pattern daily. He'd take a weeks vacation from Prairie Farms to do this. The kids and all their friends would be playing from sunup to sundown. Finally one sad year the children were both too old to care about leaf trails, and were too busy with activities, that cost money, outside our home. Jay hung up his rake sadly, shook his head and went inside the house. Some say he NEVER raked again. (that would be his neighbors) Whenever I see the leaves falling I think of the look on Jay's face when he hung up that rake. I consider the wrath of our neighbors if I keep going out on windy nights and "encourage the leaves to go next door with my feet". Then I walk resolutely to the yard and rake the leaves myself.
Joe I know my boys would play leaf trails with you any day! They love raking and jumping in the leaf piles so I can only imagine how much fun they would have with the trails! We'll invite you over the next time we rake:) Be ready to run...although I can't guarantee they won't run through the piles like Kirby did!
